Combine flour, corn starch, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg in a small bowl; set aside.
Whisk butter, sugar, buttermilk, eggs, corn syrup and vanilla in a large bowl.
Gradually stir in flour mixture until smooth. Pour into a greased 9-inch square baking pan.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
TIP: To dress this cake up, drizzle with a simple glaze: Combine 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract and 1 to 2 tablespoons milk; stir until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cake.
